Help Drive the Next Breakthrough for People Living With Choroideremia

Choroideremia affects approximately 1 in 50,000 people — 6,000 people in the US. It's an inherited disease that causes progressive loss of vision due to degeneration of cell layers in the retina, the tissue that lines the back wall of the eye and makes vision possible. As an X-linked disease, choroideremia occurs primarily in males.

Behind every choroideremia diagnosis is a person facing an uncertain future. Meet Cory Rainford, whose life has been impacted by choroideremia. Watch or listen to his story and learn about his experience living with vision loss.

More Research Is Needed
Although a recent Phase 3 clinical trial did not meet its primary goals, researchers gained important knowledge that will help guide future studies.

With additional gene therapies already in clinical trials, such as 4D Molecular Therapeutics' current Phase 1/2 clinical trial for choroideremia gene therapy, progress and hope continue toward developing treatments and cures.

Your continued support makes it possible for us to pursue the groundbreaking research needed and bring us closer to treatments and cures for people living with choroideremia.

Donations made through this page are unrestricted and support the Foundation Fighting Blindness' mission to advance research for all diseases within our portfolio, not solely choroideremia.
